Drybar Mudslide Hair Mask | Formulate Conditioner c/o |Formulate Shampoo c/o | Drybar Prep Rally Detangler | Drybar Velvet Hammer Hydration Cream
Happy Friday, friends! I hope you've all had a lovely week. I'm really looking forward to this weekend because we don't have too much on our calendar for once. Tonight we're headed to a cookie party at a friend's house and then the rest of the weekend we'll just be relaxing and finishing up our Christmas shopping! I'm hoping to get all of it done (stocking stuffers included) all by tomorrow. Wish me luck, ha!
Today is a very special post because I am partnering with Formulate to show you how I've truly revitalized my hair during this postpartum phase of my life. About 3 months postpartum I started losing a lot of hair. Other mamas weren't kidding when they would say it comes out in clumps. I was one of those unfortunate mamas that this did happen to. I grew a lot of extra hair while I was pregnant and it was so thick and beautiful up until this point. Then I started losing all the extra hair and then some! There were times I wondered how I had any hair left? Once the hair loss finally stopped about 5 months postpartum, my hair just got really dry and brittle. The places where a lot of hair fell out started growing back and I had some awesome baby hairs growing in. I looked ridiculous. But then I found Formulate and my hair took a turn for the better.
Formulate is a hair movement company that creates shampoo and conditioner specifically for your hair. When you sign up, you receive a questionnaire via e-mail asking all kinds of questions about your hair and lifestyle. So, they will ask you where you live, if you have short or long hair, if you dye your hair, if you use hot tools, etc. Then they will formulate the perfect shampoo and condition for you based on your answers! All their products are sulfate and parabens free, so they are very safe to use during all walks of life (pregnancy and breastfeeding included). Sulfate free shampoo and conditioner is the absolute best route to go because it will not damage your hair yet it still cleans it well. I've noticed such a difference in my hair thanks to my personalized shampoo and conditioner and it's all because it's perfectly formulated for my hair! My hair is thick and healthy again and all my horrible frizzies have gone away. I have naturally curly hair, so this is something I've always struggled with. Formulate takes this in to consideration and added components to my formulate to help with frizziness.
On top of my Formulate shampoo and conditioner, I am still using some of my favorite Drybar products plus I discovered a new one, the Mudslide hair mask! Here is my little hair wash/care routine that I do every few days that truly helped bring my hair back to life postpartum.
Step 1: Shampoo
I wash my hair with shampoo and conditioner every 2 to 3 days. Usually I wash it on days that I work out, so Sunday morning, Monday night, and Thursday night. I take one pump of my Formulate shampoo and rub it into my scalp. It doesn't really foam because it's sulfate free, but it gets my hair and scalp nice and clean. After a good scrub in to my scalp, I wash it out.
Step 2: Hair Mask
Next, I ring out the excess water from my hair the best that I can, and I apply a generous amount of the Drybar Mudslide hair mask to my hair. I apply it all over, scalp and ends. I usually only do this on Sundays and Thursdays. I usually let it sit for about 5 to 10 minutes while I shave my legs. After that I wash it out, and my hair is already feeling so much smoother.
Step 3: Conditioner
So, I only condition my hair when I use shampoo, too. On days that I don't wash my hair, I usually just pin it up and keep it dry so that it doesn't get too dried out from washing it too much. I again ring out the extra water from my hair then use my conditioner. When applying my conditioner though, I take one pump of my Formulate condition and apply it just to the bottom half of my hair. Then I rub any excess on top by my roots. If I put too much up on my roots/scalp then I won't have any volume in my hair. I let this sit for about a minute.
Step 4: Detangler
After I get out of the shower, I use the Drybar Prep Rally detangler before I brush out my hair. I spray a healthy amount all over my hair and then brush it out with my Lemon Drop detangler brush. This detangler and brush really helps my ends not to break so much or yank out too much hair. After I brush out my hair, I throw it up in a towel.
Step 5: Hydration Cream
After I get in to my PJs, I let my hair out of the towel and brush it out one more time. Then I apply Drybar's Velvet Hammer hydration cream. I take a quarter size amount in the palm of my hand, rub my hands together and run it through the bottom half of my hair while it's wet. I don't put any on my roots because just like conditioner, it will weigh it down too much, and I won't have any volume in my hair when I go to style it the next day.
That's it! That's my whole hair care routine. I almost always just let my hair hair dry to keep it hydrated and healthy. The combination of all these products have really gotten my hair back to where I love it but the real stars of the show are definitely my Formulate shampoo and conditioner. Once I started using them my hair went from just okay to amazing! The best part about Formulate though is they will work with you endlessly to get your formula just right. If you aren't satisfied with your current formula, you can contact them and their head chemist will work with you to get your formula just right. Is that amazing customer service or what!?
